Nanonet-Styria
Fields of expertise
NANOTECHNOLOGY FOR STRUCTURAL APPLICATIONS NANOTECHNOLOGY FOR INFORMATION, STORAGE & TRANSMISSION NANOBIOTECHNOLOGY NANOTECHNOLOGY FOR SENSOR APPLICATIONS NANOTECHNOLOGY FOR (ELECTRO) CHEMICAL PROCESSING TECHNOLOGIES LONG-TERM RESEARCH WITH GENERIC APPLICATIONS INSTRUMENTS AND EQUIPMENT, SUPPORTING SCIENCES AND TECHNOLOGIES
Vision, goals and project description
“The Austrian Province of Styria shall become an internationally recognized region in the field of nanotechnology till the end of the decade” – The Vision of NANONET-Styria. The Styrian nanotechnology network NANONET-Styria, which was founded in 2001 resting on three pillars – economy, science/research and the State of Styria – bundles the existing interests in the field of nanotechnology and aspires a long-term and sustainable imbedding of this technology in Styria.
In co-operation with all Styrian partners it is attempted to build up internationally competitive units, infrastructure and organisational structures which form the base of a medium and long-term implementation as well as an advanced scientific development. This happens under special consideration of regional strengths and interests.
On the basis of co-operation the implementation of ideas is enabled, which none of the partners could perform due to economic and scientific reasons all alone. The activities in the mentioned fields require a high amount of orientation on basics as a supplement to the usually long-term interests of the economy and hold a high amount of research.
What is essential for all aims is the good co-operation and co-ordination with the other national activities as they are prepared by the ministries and other regions as well as following up contacts with research institutions of the EU and those of the candidate states.
Nanonet Styria consists of several sub-networks Nanocoating, Nanopowders, Organic opto-electronics and sensors, Bionanotechnology, Nanoanalytics, Nanocomposites.

MNA Networking Micro@Nano-Fabrication-Austria
Fields of expertise
MICRO@NANO-STRUCTURING BIO-INSPIRED MATERIALS FUNCTIONALIZED NANO-MATERIALS NANODEVICES SENSOR & ACTUATOR SYSTEMS
Goals and project description
MNA is a consortium with the objective to organize and stimulate networking activities for the Micro@Nano-Fabrication-Austria Initiative targeted towards capitalizing on existing and proven Austrian industrial leadership in Micro@Nano Technology. A core focus is to further develop commercialization outlook – i.e. trust building between lead customers and Austrian suppliers, tacit knowledge in product and service development, strengthening market focus, opportunity recognition and demonstration of competencies of Austrian industries as well as significantly enhancing self-organization mechanisms within the relevant cluster community via benchmarking effective practice together with analytical reflection loops.
